Which criteria is important when choosing a replacement alternator?
1. Robust construction
Marine alternators are mostly operated under high loads. To achieve a long service life, they should be equipped with high-temperature grease, large cooling openings, large fans, high-strength bearings and heavy-current diodes.

2. High performance
The alternator's output should be 25% - 40% of your total battery capacity.
3. Design
Most replacement alternators are available in four different designs. The design is determined by the width (B) and the amount of space (C) that is below the eyelets. Spacer sleeves can compensate for deviations in this measurement.

4. Pulleys
Heavy-duty alternators require different strap widths, depending on their performance. Up to 70A requires a size of 3/8" (10 mm) and up to 100A requires a size of 1/2" (13 mm). It is recommended that anything above 100A requires a double strap.
