Product details

The CAMINO-108 series is the new generation of AIS-B transmitters / receivers. Inside of its compact housing, you will find optimized reception and transmission performance with BSH and CE certification. The dual-channel receiver allows for the monitoring of all types of AIS signals, such as Class A (professional shipping), Class B, AtoN and SART. The device comes equipped with NMEA2000, NMEA0183 and USB connections, allowing chartplotters and PC's to be connected. AIS data records are significanly easier to organize, collect and store with the built-in SD card slot.

Equipped with an internal splitter, the Camino-108S allows for the use of an existing VHF antenna. This makes the installation of the AIS transponder particularly easy, seeing as the existing radio is connected directly to the Camino, instead of to the VHF antenna. The splitter ensures that the devices always have sufficient transmission power.

Einfacher geht es nicht.
We have the Camino 108s in the course of a technology refit connected to our old antenna and operate behind a new Raymarine Ray52 radio. Furthermore, a fusion radio and a NMEA 2000 network are connected. Everything works perfectly. Such a good radio reception we have never had -D installation was a breeze. All necessary cables are included (even the antenna cable for the radio) which made it almost a plug and play configuration. You just have to fuel the Camino via USB cable and software with the ship data and off you go. If you know where the included GPS antenna comes from, you can make the programming in advance at home. The Camino is powered by USB during programming and does not require a 12V connection. The included antenna is small and has a great reception. We have installed the antenna in the cupboard under the gangboard and she has full reception there. Installation effort in about 5 min. The Camino also outputs its GPS signal via NMEA 2000 and 0183 and serves as a redundant antenna if the plotter or the network GPS antenna fails. All in all, I am very impressed with the small box. She does exactly what she is supposed to do and that's good too. The range in the reception area lies with our mast antenna (approx. 18m) with more than 20sm. We still have to test the transmission range. I can fully recommend the product.

Hi, I do have the same setup onboard. Everything works perfectly on the standard NMEA-2000 interface, just the drop cable and the T-junction will suffice to add the Camino-108S to the same NMEA-2000 backbone.

I installed the Camino 108S The one with the integrated the antenna-splitter It works fine with a Raymarine e7 plotter using the NMEA2000 Backbone. Only needed a special cable to the plotter as the Raymarine version of NMEA appears to have crossed some wires and is called something else. The cable is available in the SVB web shop. But should not be needed for your B&G plotter. The box contained a thin piece of antenna cable, intended for connecting the AIS to the VHS. I ended up installing the 108S where the existing antenna cable to the mast head antenna can be separated when removing the mast. (Sailboat). That way I assume I cause the least damage to the radio performance. The GPS antenna appears to work fine installed just below the GRP deck. Otherwise you will need a fuse, a switch, a well sized power cable and a NMEA2000 Tee. That is assuming you already have a NMEA2000 Backbone connected to the plotter. A PC will be needed for setting up the AIS. A USB cable is included
